The Method

A complete training for body, breathing, mind, and behaviour.

The DeRose Method is an integrated approach to human development.

It brings together techniques for the body, breathing, concentration, meditation, relaxation, and self-awareness — and looks at how practice can influence the way we communicate, make choices, deal with pressure, and create more quality in daily life.

More than a physical practice

The body is often the beginning. But the Method goes further.

In class, you may work with strength, flexibility, breathing, concentration, relaxation, meditation, and body awareness. These techniques can help develop vitality, focus, discipline, presence, and mental clarity.

The DeRose Method also encourages us to pay attention to habits, attitudes, communication, and relationships. Over time, the practice becomes something you can recognise outside the practice room too.

A good practice should make a difference beyond the class itself.
techniques + behaviour + environment

Techniques

Body, breathing, concentration, meditation, vitality, and self-awareness.

Behaviour

Habits, choices, communication, relationships, attention, and discipline.

Environment

School culture, people, conversations, care, and community.

Together, they create a broader experience of practice, learning, and personal development.

Techniques

Structured, practical, and progressive

The point is not performance for its own sake. It is to develop more energy, stability, focus, sensitivity, discipline, and self-command.

Everyone starts from their own level, with guidance from the instructor. You do not need previous experience to begin.

Behaviour

Awareness in everyday life

Behavioural education means paying attention to how we speak and listen, organise ourselves, deal with pressure, make choices, and relate to others.

You may begin to notice the practice in the way you communicate, work, study, lead, collaborate, rest, and build relationships.

At Augusta, we value behaviour that is clear, respectful, attentive, and coherent. It is not about perfection, but about becoming more aware and making small improvements consistently.

Environment

The atmosphere also teaches.

The space matters. The way you are welcomed matters. The conversations before and after class matter. So does the culture of the school.

Augusta is built through classes, workshops, lunches, dinners, study, conversations, cultural activities, and small gestures that make a place feel cared for.

This gives students somewhere to practise and learn, but also somewhere to connect with other people over time. The school around the class is part of the Method too.

Professor DeRose and the roots of the Method

The DeRose Method has roots in ancient cultural traditions from the Indus Valley civilisation, more than 5,000 years ago.

Professor DeRose systematised this knowledge into a practical method for contemporary life, bringing together techniques, behavioural education, culture, and human development.

At DeRose Method Augusta, this work is lived through regular practice, good relationships, care, and a school environment that supports vitality, focus, presence, and quality of life.

How we practise at Augusta

Guided with attention, structure, and care

The practice can be challenging, but you should never feel lost. We want students to develop discipline without unnecessary harshness, confidence without arrogance, and self-awareness without withdrawing from the people around them.

Outside class, people stay for chai, talk with instructors and students, join workshops and lunches, ask questions, and take part in cultural activities. That wider experience is part of how we practise here.

Strong, but intelligent.
Disciplined, but human.
Clear, but warm.
Is this for you?

You can begin without previous experience.

You do not need to be flexible. You do not need to know how to meditate. You just need to begin.
