About Us
A school built around practice, culture, and human connection
DeRose Method Augusta is a school in the heart of Lisbon, a few steps from Rua Augusta.
We created this school for people looking for more than an isolated class. Practice is at the centre of what we do, but what happens around it matters too: how people are welcomed, the conversations after class, the attention to detail, the shared meals, the workshops, the cultural activities, and the relationships that develop over time.
Warm, thoughtful, organised, and human.
We want to build a school that feels warm, thoughtful, organised, and human.
A place where discipline and care belong together. Where students are welcomed by name, relationships matter, and quality can be felt in the small details.
For us, a school is not built through classes alone.
It takes shape through consistency, attention, good communication, and the way people treat one another every day.
Techniques
Body, breathing, attention, concentration, meditation, relaxation, vitality, and self-awareness.
Behaviour
Communication, choices, habits, pressure, relationships, and everyday life.
Environment
The school, its culture, the people, the conversations, and the care given to the experience.
The environment is where all of this comes together. That is why DeRose Method Augusta is more than a place to practise. It is somewhere to learn, ask questions, participate, build relationships, and gradually bring more clarity, energy, and coherence into daily life.
The roots of the Method
Professor DeRose is the systematiser of the DeRose Method and the central reference for its methodology, culture, and educational approach.
With more than 60 years of teaching, he has written over 30 books published in countries across the Americas and Europe and has received academic, cultural, humanitarian, and institutional recognition in Brazil and Portugal.
His work brings together technical practice, behavioural education, culture, quality of life, and human relationships in an approach designed for contemporary life.
At DeRose Method Augusta, we relate to this legacy in a practical way: preserving the roots of the Method while creating a school experience that feels warm, contemporary, and accessible in Lisbon.

Values made visible in everyday life
Three values guide the way we build the school.
Honesty
Being clear, sincere, and consistent in what we say and do.
Respect
Treating people with attention, discretion, good manners, and consideration.
Care
Paying attention to the details that help people feel comfortable, welcomed, and well looked after.
These values only mean something if they can be seen in everyday life: in how we teach, answer messages, receive students, prepare the room, organise activities, speak about one another, and follow through on what we say.
People who care about the whole experience
DeRose Method Augusta is guided by instructors who care about practice, education, culture, and the quality of each student’s experience.
Our role goes beyond leading classes. We welcome people into the school, answer questions, support their progression, and help them find a rhythm of practice that makes sense for their lives.
We also share responsibility for the atmosphere of the school: keeping it clear, respectful, attentive, and warm.

In the heart of the city
We are in Baixa, one of Lisbon’s most central and historic areas, a few steps from Rua Augusta.
Students arrive from work, university, nearby neighbourhoods, and different parts of the city.
The school is central and urban, but personal and calm.
The life that grows around practice
Throughout the week, the school becomes the setting for many different moments.
There are regular practices, but also chai after class, lunches, dinners, workshops, study sessions, cultural activities, and informal conversations.
These moments give people time to know the school and one another beyond the practice room.

global
International connection. Local life.
DeRose Method Augusta is part of the international DeRose Method network of schools.
This connects us to a wider community of instructors, students, schools, courses, events, and festivals in different countries.
At the same time, every school develops its own local life.
Our role is to bring the Method into the reality of Lisbon: respecting its roots while creating a school that feels relevant, human, and alive here.
The best way to understand Augusta is to spend some time here.
Come for an experimental class, meet the school, speak with one of our instructors, and see how the environment feels to you.
